Rotorua Nurse manager Community Hero
13 October 2014
Bridget Wilson, the Clinical Nurse Manager of the Children’s Unit at Rotorua Hospital has been chosen as the Community Hero by staff across 10 of The Warehouse stores.
Bridget (pictured above centre) was presented with flowers and her prize by Rotorua store manager Sally Rison (right) and Megs Russell (left), whose role includes community co-ordination.
Sally Rison says an earlier initiative by Rotorua staff saw a range of goods and toys donated to the Children’s Unit, and she says The Warehouse staff were very taken with the passion and commitment Bridget brings to her role.
The Warehouse stores in Hastings, Napier, Gisborne, Whakatane, Taupo, Rotorua, Tauranga and Papamoa make up region 5, and as the regional winner, Bridget’s name will now go forward to the national community hero competition.
The award recognises outstanding work by the recipient for his or her community, carries a gift voucher of $500 which will be used to the benefit of the unit.
Bridget Wilson says she was delighted to accept the honour, and says it comes towards the end of a very busy year for staff in the Woman, Child and Family Service.
She says so many families are struggling today, that it is wonderful to have such strong community partnerships as they make it possible to provide such a range of activities for sick children. She says the donations this year have made a huge difference in terms of being able to provide things for sick children to do, to take their minds off being unwell.
