ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mick Stone is the pen name for Micheal R. Smith, who has been a journalist since 1976. Today he is based in Rotorua, New Zealand, where he is an independent writer, editor and publisher. On graduating with a journalism diploma from the then Auckland Technical Institute, his journalistic career started at the Waikato Times in Hamilton. He launched a freelance news agency, Smithnewz, in 1981 after moving to Rotorua with wife Sue Wilkie who was a Radio New Zealand chief reporter. Smith wrote for local, national and international media outlets. From the mid-1980s to early 1990s he wrote for the National Business Review, New Zealand’s leading business newspaper. After a short stint in Singapore, he established himself back in Rotorua in a business offering contract writing, editing and publishing services.
