The Mud Interns

The Mud is proud to offer young people in Rotorua the opportunity to gain valuable experience in news media through our web site

Our interns to date have included three different people;

Lorne Davies, our first intern from June 2013, was a student doing computer studies at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.  Lorne had a real interest in videography and was helpful in setting up the basic video reporting structure on the web site.  He left to continue to focus more on completing his studies and we are grateful to him for his assistance.

Marlena Martina came to The Mud after completing a Diploma in Communications at Waiariki Institute of Technology.  Marlena had previously applied to a local media outlet but been told to get some experience.  Referred to The Mud, she settled in very quickly to the task of interviewing and presenting video material.  A quick learner, she adapted quickly to the professional requirements of our service.  Her positive attitude helped her in role as an interviewer with a wide range of people. Marlena, a former Miss Aoteraroa New Zealand, is now pursuing a modeling career in Melbourne, Australia.

Michael Kilkelly is our latest intern. Michael aims to pursue a career in journalism, starting with a degree at Waikato University.  He too has proved a quick learner and has been helpful in a number of interview roles.  Michael is also a good writer and has been able to assist in the provision of articles.
